Governance

Quinton Church Primary School has retained its religious base and is part of Birmingham Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust (BDMAT). Every school within BDMAT has its own Local Academy Board. The Local Academy Board takes a keen interest in all aspects of school life and is responsible for the general oversight of the conduct and the curriculum of the school.

The Local Academy Board consists of:

  • 8 Governors (appointed by BDMAT)

Other Governors include:

  • two parents (elected by the parents)
  • two members of staff – one is usually a teacher and the other is a support staff (elected by the staff)
  • the Headteacher (if s/he opts to be a member of the Local Academy Board)

The Governors have an important job to do. They are involved in:

  • deciding what is taught
  • setting standards of behaviour
  • monitoring attendance and punctuality
  • interviewing and selecting staff
  • deciding how the school budget is spent
  • maintaining the school building

Sarah Lal (Chair of Governors)

I’m a mum of two children who attend/attened QCPS, and have been appointed as a co-opted governor.  I am very passionate about improving the quality of life for young children and volunteer my time towards this cause frequently. I am a youth leader at my local church, and I also sit on the Governing Board of another local school near Quinton. I have a wealth of experience in Board roles working within the education and government sectors as a HR Director. I am also a firm believer that education unlocks potential, so pursued masters and bachelors degrees from the University of Birmingham in business and economics;  these skills will be utilised in my role as a Governor at QCPS, where I will support the Head Teacher, senior leaders and other Governors to ensure we provide the best quality of education and experiences for children.

Paul Bridges.

As a parent with children at the wonderful QCPS, I care deeply about how successful my children, your children and the school can be. I have worked in a C of E school and know how important values and compassion are in a child’s education. Currently I am a leader at a primary school in Birmingham with responsibility for the broader curriculum, reading, pastoral care and computing, I have worked on boards and governing committees, inside and outside the education sector, to drive up standards and performance and create the best environment for success.

Rev Rachel Heathfield

Rev Rachel Heathfield is Vicar at Christ Church Quinton and is proud to be a partner with and governor for Quinton Primary School. She spends a lot of time in school and loves to open up the church building for the children at school to come and visit as often as possible. She sees communicating the Christian faith through stories and activities as one of her priorities in this role.

Steve Miller

As Headteacher I have been part of the governing body since joining QCPS in September 2024. Quinton Church Primary is a fantastic school, filled with children, staff and parents who are kind, fair and thankful. I have been in primary school leadership since 2017 and a governor for a Sandwell school since 2014. Outside of school I enjoy football, travelling, serving my local church and spending time with my family.

Claire Morris

After a 20 year career in Finance and Marketing I wanted a change of direction and to make a difference – I have now been a Teaching Assistant at our lovely Quinton School since 2010. My son attended this school and loved every minute! I have been involved in the Quinton Community for a number of years; I ran the Church playgroup for several years, lead an Art Club (on behalf of Paul and Barney’s Christian Group) and I am an active member of our school PTFA. I am passionate about supporting our children,  not only as ‘learners’ but in helping them develop and grow into the amazing people they want to be. Being a Governor means I can help shape the journey for children, parents and staff at our school and make it the best it can be!

Wayne Redmond

Having grown up in the local area, I’ve always felt a strong connection to our community and its schools. I became a parent governor to actively support the school’s commitment to providing a safe, high-quality education for every child. In my role, I work closely with school leaders, staff, and other governors to ensure policies reflect the best interests of our children and their families. With qualifications in management and law, I bring a practical, informed perspective to decision-making and support health and safety by carrying out in-house checks alongside staff and external assessors. I have one child currently at the Quinton Church Primary, as my eldest has now moved on to secondary school. Passionate about children’s welfare, I’m dedicated to ensuring our school remains a secure, supportive environment where we can confidently entrust our children’s wellbeing and future.

I am a foundation Governor.  I have been a member of Christ Church the Quinton for nearly 25 years. I have had two children that attended the school. I am interested in the continuing synergy between the church and school. The school is a vital part of the community I live in. Plus, I believe that safeguarding is important so that children feel and are safe in a school environment.

Andrea Smith

I currently work as a primary school teacher with over 20 years experience. I have held varying leadership roles and also as a parent governor. I am currently leading PSHE/SMSC and Religious education whilst teaching in Key stage 2. I bring with me a wealth of teaching and learning experiences and a personal passion for education.  The Christian values and ethos at Quinton Church Primary are very important to me and my family both morally and spiritually. I live in Quinton and will wholeheartedly utilise the opportunity to contribute as part of the wider community to the continuing successful journey at Quinton Church Primary.

Mohammed Yasser

As a parent of a child who attends the school, I bring a firsthand understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our children, parents, and teachers. With a background in various senior leadership roles which has included FE college and a university in the West Midlands – I have a passion for supporting the school to provide a nurturing and enriching learning environment for all our children. Being a parent governor, my focus will include advocating for children’s well-being: I am committed to ensuring that our school is a safe, inclusive, and engaging space for all children. I will be collaborating with fellow governors and school leaders on ways to improve academic standards and enhance the overall educational experience at the school.
