Reception Admissions

Applications for Reception are made online and more information on how to do this can be found below:

School age – when can your child start school? | Apply for reception class or primary school | Birmingham City Council

The number of new children we can accept in to Reception each year is 30. The maximum number of pupils in any class in the Reception or KS1 will not exceed 30. If the number of applications received exceeds the number of places available, the following criteria will be used to determine the children who can be admitted:

In order of priority:

1. Looked after children (in public care) This included any child who is subject to a Full Care Order, an Interim Care Order, accommodated under Section 20 of the Children Act 1989, is remanded or detained into local Authority accommodation under Criminal law or who has been placed for adoption.

2. Children (Siblings) with an older brother or sister already at the school who will still be in attendance at the time the sibling is admitted to the school. Siblings refer to brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister, or the child of the parent/carer’s partner, and in every case, the child should be living in the same family unit at the same address.

3. Any places that remain available once the above applicants have been admitted will be filled according to those children who live closest to the school, determined by a straight line measurement from the home address to the main entrance of the school.

All admissions for a place in Reception class in the September of each academic year will be handled by the Admissions and Appeals department of Birmingham City Council. In year admissions will be handled by the school. Priority is as stated above with the exception of in year changes to Year 6, which will be offered for exceptional circumstances only. The school will maintain a waiting list according to priority as stated above. Exceptions to the policy may be made when, to admit a child with specific needs might hinder the progress and/or attainment of children already on roll.
